The masonry of this arch has been laid at an angle, to create a skewed arch. The offset ends of this arch bridge were planned, to prevent having to create an odd bend in the Northern Turnpike. Skew Arch Bridge is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, as part of the Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site.Galleries:Allegheny Portage Railroad, Arch BridgesKeywords:allegheny portage railroad, arch bridge, bridge, gallitzin, northern turnpike, pennsylvania, road planning, skew arch bridgePhoto Location: Skew Arch Bridge, Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site, PennsylvaniaPhotographer: Dr. Roy WinkelmanDate of Photo: 11/25/2011Device Make: CanonDevice Model: Canon EOS 5D Mark IIOriginal Dimensions: 5544×3696Picture Orientation: LandscapeGPS Coordinates: 40°27'11.00"N 78°32'34.23"WPicture Number: 15913
