View One of Matanzas River Inlet and Fort Matanzas, from the Southeast
This is a view of Fort Matanzas located on Rattlesnake Island as seen from the southeast. The fort is 50 feet on each side with a 30-foot tower, it was built of local shellstone called coquina. Lime for the mortar was made by burning oyster shells. There are four cannons on the gundeck.
