Sunflowers
A total of 20 photos of sunflowers (Helianthus annuus) are included in this gallery. Sunflowers are members of the family Asteraceae. They are harvested for their seeds and oil which are both used as food; sunflowers are therefore important agricultural crops. Sunflowers have composite flower heads; that is, they have many individual flowers that comprise the flower head. The small flowers in the center of the flower head are called disk flowers or florets. The larger flowers that extend from the center are called ray flowers and resemble petals.
