The map is color–coded to show the French lands at the time of Bonaparte's ascension to power in 1799, the lands acquired by Napoleon, and the lands under his protection as of 1810, including the Confederation of the Rhine, the kingdoms of Spain, Italy, and Naples, and the Grand Duchy of Warsaw. This map also shows the Danish possessions of Norway and Iceland, the Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, Sweden, the western portion of Russia, the Kingdom of Prussia, and the Empire of Austria. The map shows the extent of the Ottoman Empire in Europe.
