The map shows the routes of Marco Polo to Cathay (1271-1295), Bartholomew Diaz to the Cape of Good Hope and Caffraria (1486-1487), Christopher Columbus (first voyage, 1492-1493, and fourth voyage, 1502-1504), Vasco de Gama to Calicut, India (1497-1499), John Cabot to Newfoundland (1497-1498), Ojeda and Amerigo Vespucci to Venezuela (1499-1500), Amerigo Vespucci to Bahia de Cananea, Brazil (1501-1502), Fernando Magellan's circumnavigation of the earth (1519-1522), Francisco Pizarro to Peru (1524 and 1532-1534), and Diego de Almagro to Chile (1535-1537). The map also notes the discoveries of Iceland (AD 867) and Greenland (AD 982) by the Norsemen, Zipangu (Japan, 1549) by the Portuguese, Hudson Bay (1610-1611) by Henry Hudson, and several other sites.
