Description: A map from 1909 of the routes of Cook and Perry to the North Pole. This map shows the controversial claims of reaching the pole, including the route of Robert Peary on April 6, 1909, and the route of Frederick Cook on April 22, 1908. CookÕs claim has never been substantiated, and PearyÕs claim is generally accepted as the first, however even that claim has its distracters. The map also shows the polar exploration routes of Fridtjof Nansen (1893–1896), Duke of the Abruzzi (1899–1900), Adolphus Greely (1881–1884), Elisha Kane (1850–1851),and the earlier Peary expeditions in Greenland (1892–1893), and attempt for the pole in 1900, 1902, and 1906.
