Description: This map shows areas of volcanic and seismic activity throughout the world. Areas of particular interest are shown on a larger scale. One of these maps is the Sunda Islands group of volcanoes in modern day Indonesia. In 1882, one of these Volcanoes, Krakatoa, erupted one of the worst natural disasters of modern times. Aside from the actual violent erupt, effects of this event were felt all around the world. Tsunamis were felt as far way as South Africa. The gases from the eruptions caused global temperatures to drop for years after the event. The ash and debris released into the atmosphere created extraordinary sunsets around the world.
