As time passes the good doctor's collection of animals only continues to increase. A visiting crocodile further exacerbates the doctor's money troubles. Intending to be married, Sarah leaves Puddley-on-the-Marsh.
Doctor Dolittle introduces the Popsipetel tribe to the gift of fire.
Polynesia begins her tutoring of Tommy on the nuances of understanding animals and their language. Doctor Dolittle performs another of his many services for a local dog missing his owner.
Word spreads of the doctor's return home, prompting visits from various animals. Polynesia explains the finer points of understanding animals.
Jip, having picked up the scent of the boy's uncle, guides the ship to his location.
The red haired fisherman shares his story. Doctor Dolittle takes the fisherman home. For there efforts, both the doctor and Jip receive tokens of gratitude.
With the pirates having boarded the doctor's ship, the doctor and animals take control of the pirate ship. The sinking of the doomed ship puts Ben Ali at the mercy of the doctor and a large fish.
Luke's trial commences and Doctor Dolittle is called as a witness for the defense.
Polynesia works tirelessly to secure a period of rest for the doctor, asking her friends for assistance in the process.
Once again set sail on their journey home, the doctor and the animals take a look around the pirate ship. Another castaway is found.
The doctor turns to the assistance of some passing porpoises to inquire about the current location of the island, finding out something rather interesting in the process.

The monkeys, intent on giving the doctor a gift, set out to hunt down the extremely rare and unusual pusmi-pullyu. The good doctor is honored with a dinner and a monument of sorts.
Eager to see the rest of the Dolittle estate, Tommy arrives early, greeted by Polynesia. The doctor and Tommy discuss the language of solitary animals.
Mrs. Westmacott recounts the story to the Doctor and the Admiral after giving the Admiral his pension papers back. She spent the money that she was going to give to her brother on the Admiral’s papers. Her brother returned to her and was the one who struck her on the head. Harold is able to clear his name, the Admiral does not have to return to sea or move from his villa, both couples get married, and all live a full and happy life.
Tommy is given a tour of the animal's quarters.
Doctor Dolittle receives word about the disappearance of Golden Arrow's son, Long Arrow.
