Hump has an extended philosophical discussion with Captain Larsen, while an enraged Mugridge continues to perform extra duties. An argument with Captain Larsen results in the continuation of Hump's duties as cabin boy. The situation between Mugridge and Hump finally comes to a head.
Passepartout questions Detective Fix's motivation after discovering him on the Rangoon. An oblivious Phileas continues to spend time with Aouda. The Rangoon enters high seas.
Ahab continues to enquire about the white whale. Stubb and the crew "assist" the Bouton de Rose in disposing of a whale.
While in Europe Amy runs into Fred Vaughn, an old acquaintance from Camp Laurence. Amy continues to write letters to her mother and sisters.
The boys stand up to the men on the sharpie, with good result. The decide to continue their journey, making up as much ground as they can for the day. All is well, but the changing tides make for a rough landing.
The author's earliest memories of childhood and the conditions in which his family lived and worked are explained.
The Yankee and Clarence come upon a town of poorly-dressed peasants and a huge procession. They follow the procession to the castle. The Yankee assumes that the castle is an asylum.
Livesey takes the map and goes to speak with Ben Gunn. Jim spies Silver and his men and heads for the Hispaniola.
The remaining crew considers Parker's suggestion, eventually drawing lots to make the fateful decision.
Captain Spike prepares the Molly Swash for departure. Rose Budd and her aunt will be on board. Jack Tier appears, to Captain Spike's dismay.
The Elmers send Mark away to his uncle’s house to recover. They send Ruth along to keep him company on his journey and to visit with her friend Edna May. Mark plans to travel to New York with Captain Bill in the Wildfire.
Along with the Tin Man, the group travels to visit the Scarecrow in his giant corn house. The Tin Man tells him about the news of Ozma’s fate. He tells them to live each day to the fullest. They all travel to the farm of Jack Pumpkinhead to tell him the sad news. The group heads back to the Emerald City.
Tom fills in the others on what caused his disappearance. Harry continues to look for the man he promised to help. The girls set out on the river again, this time with Harry in tow, and find another man on the river.
After the killing of a right whale, Fedallah makes a suggestion.
David assists Peggotty with Mr. Barkis' affairs. Not unlike Steerforth, Little Em'ly is nowhere to be found.
The house lands on top of the Wicked Witch of the East. Dorothy is welcomed by the Witch of the North and the Munchkins. Dorothy asks for help to get back to Kansas. The good Witch of the North tells her to go to the Emerald City to talk to the Wizard of Oz who can help her. She is warned that the way is pleasant, but also dark and terrible.
Jeremiah Anderson's pride keeps him from asking for help from his ex-slave master after he is freed.
Huck and Jim are joined by the duke and the dauphin.
The three children watch the Toyman make a boat for them to play with. As they play they also hear the commentary of the various animals in the barnyard.
While Cathy visits Linton, he insists that he is getting stronger, even though throughout the visit he is squeamish and looking back at the house constantly. Cathy and Nelly discuss his health on the way home.
There is a misunderstanding between the Captain and Mrs. Budd. The ship is stopped by a cruiser.
All are reunited to make happy plans for the future. Sumner realizes the errors of his thinking.
After receiving a visit from his nephew, Charles Darnay, the Marquis receives a painful message.
Hontz Synder gives a sermon to the people of the plantation.
