In the forest, Hester and Dimmesdale are finally able to escape both the public eye and Chillingworth. They join hands and sit in a secluded spot near a brook. Hester tells Dimmesdale that Chillingworth is her husband. The former lovers plot to steal away on a ship to Europe, where they can live with Pearl as a family.
Dorothy and her friends continue on their way and meet a mittenless kangaroo. She tells the gang about the Fuddles in the nearby town of Fuddlecumjig. The people of that town literally fall to pieces when strangers come to visit. Dorothy and her friends matched some of the townspeople, sat down to dinner, and continued on their way.
Hawkeye and the Mohicans defeat the Hurons and rescue the captured members of the group. Magua escapes as the group continues to move towards the safety of the fort.
Despite a warning from his mother, Tommy tries to steal one of Farmer Green’s hens.
Oliver is once again taken to see Mr. Brownlow. Mr. Brownlow and Miss Rose tell Nancy's story to Mrs. Maylie and Mr. Losberne.
