A king advertises that he will wed his daughter to one who can make a ship that will float on both land and sea. Three brothers each have their hand at building such a ship, but the kindness of the youngest allows him success, as he befriends a holy hermit. The group journeys to the kingdom, picking up friends along the way. Unfortunately, the king changes the rules when they arrive, but the man's new friends help him to meet the king’s demands.
Miss Rose receives visitors, one of which declares his love for her is solid and lasting. Oliver awakens from a nightmare to see familiar faces.
The clash between sense and sensibility is again shown in this discussion between Elinor and Marianne, and what their views on Edward and Elinor’s relationship are.

Mrs. Westmacott recounts the story to the Doctor and the Admiral after giving the Admiral his pension papers back. She spent the money that she was going to give to her brother on the Admiral’s papers. Her brother returned to her and was the one who struck her on the head. Harold is able to clear his name, the Admiral does not have to return to sea or move from his villa, both couples get married, and all live a full and happy life.
A conversation with Vida greatly affects Carol. Will reassures her that everyone likes her, but advises her to purchase goods from his patient's businesses.
Fear is overwhelming Currer after a runaway slave is hunted.
The Hurons discover Uncas has escaped. Magua and the dead woman are discovered in the cave. Magua persuades the Hurons to follow his lead once more.

Black Dog enters the inn and asks for an old friend by the name of Billy Bones. By his description, Jim recognizes him as the old sailor staying with them. Billy tries to kill Blackl Dog with his sword and has a stroke. Dr. Livesey cares for Billy.
The Reverend Crisparkle visits with Mr. Honeythunder before stopping by the Staple Inn to see Neville. Grewgious questions Crisparkle about Jasper's whereabouts. Neville becomes acquainted with Tartar.
The crew removes the oil from the whales head. Tashtego is nearly lost at sea.
After a glass of rum, Billy’s strength is renewed and plans to outrun his pursuers. Jim’s father dies and Jim encounters a blind man who gives Billy a pirate summons. Billy is worried and suffers a fatal stroke.
